How much does IELTS coaching cost by format?
1. Budget group or online batch: approximately ₹5,000–₹12,000
At the lower end, you may find a short online batch, a group course with limited trainer contact, or a crash programme. It can be sensible for a self-disciplined learner who already performs near the required band in timed practice. The key question is not whether the fee is low; it is whether the course includes enough individual Writing and Speaking evaluation to identify your specific errors.
Check the number of live classes, mock tests, feedback cycles, recording access and support after a mock. A low fee becomes poor value if it covers only generic videos and worksheets that are widely available elsewhere.
2. Standard regular coaching: approximately ₹10,000–₹25,000
This is the middle of the market and often the most practical choice for a first attempt. A regular course should normally give you a structured plan across Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, timed practice, error analysis and at least some trainer-reviewed work. Bangalore market guides place many options in a broader ₹7,000–₹35,000 range, depending on duration and mode.[6]
Do not compare two prices without comparing teaching hours and feedback. “Four weeks” may mean a high-contact live programme, or it may mean access to recordings for four weeks. Ask for the total number of sessions and whether Writing Task 1, Task 2 and Speaking are evaluated individually.
3. Extensive preparation: approximately ₹25,000–₹50,000
Longer programmes may include foundation English, repeated mocks, additional doubt-clearing and more correction cycles. This can be appropriate when your diagnostic score is well below the required band or when your work schedule makes consistent self-study difficult. It is not automatically better than a shorter course: paying for extra weeks does not guarantee a higher score.
The IELTS test has four sections. IELTS Academic takes 2 hours and 45 minutes in total; Listening is approximately 30 minutes, Reading 60 minutes, Writing 60 minutes and Speaking 11–14 minutes.[3] A useful course should therefore prepare you for both language and task conditions, not just vocabulary memorisation.
4. One-to-one coaching: approximately ₹20,000–₹50,000
Individual coaching costs more because you are buying dedicated trainer time. The value is highest when the plan is genuinely personalised: a diagnostic, a section-wise target, line-by-line Writing corrections, recorded Speaking reviews, and a schedule that responds to your work or application deadline.
Ask whether “one-to-one” means every class is private, or whether only an assessment call is individual. Also ask how many corrections are included, how quickly feedback arrives and what happens if your diagnostic shows that you need a different test type or a longer foundation plan.
