If you type reasonably fast, computer-delivered is usually the easier choice, because results come sooner and there are more dates. If you are slow on a keyboard, paper may suit you better.

What extra costs should I plan for?

When is a One Skill Retake worth it?

A One Skill Retake lets you retake just one section, within 60 days of your original test, instead of the whole test.

When is a re-mark worth it?

An Enquiry on Results costs ₹14,250 and is refunded if your score goes up. It is worth considering when:

One section, usually Writing or Speaking, is far below what your practice tests suggested.
You are just 0.5 short of a requirement in one section.

It is rarely worth it when you were below target across several sections. In that case, spend the money on preparation and a new test.

How do I avoid paying twice?

The cheapest IELTS is the one you pass the first time.

Take a full mock test before booking. If your mock is well below your target, book a later date.
Know your target per section, not just overall. Many programmes ask for a minimum in each section, for example 6.0 or 6.5.
Book 4 to 6 weeks before your deadline, so you have time for a retake if you need one.
Practise Writing and Speaking with feedback. These are the sections where Indian candidates most often fall short, and they are hard to judge on your own.
