The German Admission Process for Indian Students: 2026 Timeline

Step 1: Check Anabin & Take the dMAT (If Required)

Before you can even apply for APS, you must verify that your Indian degree is recognized in Germany. Check the Anabin database to ensure your university holds an "H+" status. Additionally, if you are applying for specific Master's programs (like Engineering, Economics, or Data Science), you must now register for and take the dMAT (Digital Master Test). Step 2: APS Certification (3 6 weeks)

From November 2022, APS is mandatory for all Indian students. If your course requires the dMAT, you must submit your dMAT certificate along with your transcripts to APS India. Read our complete German APS Guide.

Step 3: University Application (Uni-Assist or Direct)

  • Uni-Assist: Most universities use this central service. Fee: €75 for first application, €30 per additional.
  • Direct Application: Some universities (TUM, RWTH) accept direct applications via their portals.

Step 4: Blocked Account (€11,904 for 2026)

Open a blocked account with Fintiba, Coracle, or Expatrio. This is required to prove you have the funds to support your living expenses during your studies.

Step 5: Visa Application (4 8 weeks)

Book your appointment at the German Embassy/Consulate. Required documents:

  • APS Certificate
  • University admission letter
