Grade	Your German grade meets the programme's minimum, if it has one
Subjects	Your courses cover the programme's required subjects and credits

Programmes come in three types: open (meet the rules and you are in), restricted (ranked, often by grade) and selection (ranked on several criteria). A good shortlist mixes all three. The free German University Shortlister sorts programmes into Safe, Target and Ambitious for your profile.

Step 4: APS and the dMAT

APS is required for Indian applicants and takes weeks.

Step 5 to 7: Tests, documents and applications

Many universities use uni-assist (fee: €75 for the first application and €30 for each extra one in the same semester), and others take applications directly. Check each programme.

Step 8 to 10: After the admission letter
